--Private company growing while others
leaving industry or consolidating--
Carmel, Ind., December 3, 2004 – Steve
Johns, president and CEO of Carmel-based eGIX Inc., today
announced that with the purchase of Xila Communications LLC,
eGIX has made its fourth acquisition of the year in the
communications industry, this during a time of industry
consolidation and business closings.
eGIX reached an agreement to purchase Xila from CTI Group (Holdings) Inc. (NASDAQ: CTIG.OB). Xila operates as a competitive provider of bundled local and long distance telecommunications products and services to enterprise customers in the Indianapolis area. The closing of this transaction is contingent upon the anticipated approval of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
"Last year, there were 10 or more competitive telecommunications companies; now there are about four," said Johns. "We are able to stay competitive in the small to medium size business markets by adopting technology early and putting it together in ways that businesses and individuals can increase productivity through communications."
eGIX is the only Indiana-based service provider offering IP communication services today, including VoIP; although, others have recently announced their intentions. Johns added that eGIX has been a technology leader in the Indiana community for over 14 years.
Last week eGIX announced its purchase of ECN (Enhanced Communications Network, LLC). Indianapolis-based ECN formerly provided telephony services and products for the tenants and affiliates of The Precedent Companies as well as other organizations in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The acquisition of ECN allowed eGIX to expand its IP (Internet Protocol) Communications, including Voice over IP (VoIP) communications and high-speed Internet access, as well as traditional long distance and local line services.
These recent acquisitions come on the heels of two that occurred earlier in 2004. In June, eGIX purchased Dyer, Indiana-based JORSM Internet, allowing the company to strengthen its customer base in northwestern Indiana. In May, eGIX announced the acquisition of Lebanon, Indiana-based In-Motion and began delivering service to In-Motion's business and residential subscribers.
Headquartered in Carmel, Ind., eGIX is one of the largest privately-held, integrated communications providers with a national network operating in 37 of the top 50 metropolitan service areas. eGIX serves as a single source for reliable unified voice and data solutions, Internet access (dial-up & broadband), VoIP applications, local line services, IT Consulting and a full suite of enhanced services including unified communications and One Number "Follow Me" service.
